Aaniin! We are excited to welcome Bella Nayquonabe as Makwa Global’s newest Rotating Program Intern.
Bella is an enrolled member of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and a senior at UC Berkeley, where she majors in Conservation and Resource Studies and minors in Native American Studies. Her passion lies in uplifting Indigenous voices, practices, and teachings while weaving them into environmentalism and stewardship.
Her journey is already inspiring:
✨ Honored with the 25 Under 25 National Native Youth Leadership award in 2022 for her “Healing Through Art” project with the Mille Lacs Band community.
✨ A contributor to the Rosetta Stone Project, helping preserve and revitalize the Anishinaabe language.
✨ A proud Jingle Dress dancer, carrying forward a tradition originated by the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.
Outside of her academic and community work, Bella enjoys backpacking, writing poetry, and Native American beading—activities that keep her connected to her heritage and creativity.
We are honored to have Bella on our team and look forward to supporting her as she continues to grow, lead, and inspire. Bella will spend time with each part of the business and see first-hand how Makwa operates day-to-day.
“We are honored to welcome Bella to Makwa Global. Her passion for uplifting Indigenous voices and preserving Ojibwe traditions reflects the very values we stand for. Strength, integrity, and community. We look forward to learning from her and supporting her journey as a future leader.”
